Rules are usually broken in news
and sports photography. After all, late-breaking news events happen too fast and
very sudden where the concerned photographers may not have the time to consider the
fundamentals of photography and simply click and hope for the best. But even if the
photos taken were far from perfect, the published version is usually cropped to follow
the three rules.
Rules of photography can be broken further. Below are some photos to illustrate them:-

The simplicity rule was broken because the photograph on the right shows the logo
of the sponsor of the event and the sponsored 500cc rider. By using the telephoto
lens' compressed perspective, the logo seems to be very near the rider even though
it was actually more than twenty metres away.

Another two examples are as follows:- The photo on the right follows the rules perfectly,
with the boat stands out as the centre of attraction against an unobstructive background.
Photo on the left breaks the simplicity rule by including the rows of squatter houses
in the background. Although the houses are distracting, they are important to show
the location of the boat.
In this first issue of the section, we will show Canon camera owners the fundamentals
of photography which are important to create better pictures. Future issues will
deal with how to make full use of the features of the EOS cameras and EF lenses to
create wonderful looking photos using the fundamentals of photography described here.
