To make the best out of any compact camera, one has to know a bit about composition in order to create great images. Here are some examples of the photos that were shot with the Canon Prima Zoom 85 point & shoot AF camera.

Subject looks great with angle like this

Shooting through window panes

Candid expression

Perspective distortion

Close-up mode

Available for the entry, mid-level and the top-end models in the Canon EOS range is a choice of over 50 superb EF lenses to meet your shooting needs. As stated earlier, it is the lenses and not the camera you have that makes the differences between a great shot and a lousy one.

As highlighted in issue six on perspective, you can use either the wide-angle or telephoto lenses to maximize the exaggerated or compressed perspectives to your liking. Look at these two photos of the balconies of typical low-cost apartments in the outskirts of Kuala Lumpur. The hanging out of laundry to dry is a common sight (but something new for foreigners) to Malaysians.

Apartment balconies (Horizontal)

Apartment balconies (Vertical)

The use of a 600mm (300x2) focal length had compressed the perspective of the apartment building, making it look narrower than it actually is in reality and highlighted the balconies (and the laundry) clearly to one's attention, regardless of whether the photos were shot horizontally or vertically.
