The eye of the photographer.
With 32 issues of The Art of Photography
column having been featured in this Canon Malaysia's homepage, I am sure all the
visitors have learnt a lot on how to improve their creative abilities in their photography.
However, I discover there are a lot of shooters out there who would like to know
just how hard or easy it is to be able to learn about improving their standards of
photography and how the professionals do it in the first place.
This is where the "Eye of the Photographer" comes into being. When
you possess this ability, you will never again have to worry about the problems to
be encountered in photography or anything that may have to do with the features of
your camera equipment. But how will you know when you have reached the level of being
a top-notch photography enthusiast, which allows you to "see things from a photographic
perspective?"
Practice, practice, practice and apply everything you have learnt from photography
to your shooting sessions. As they say, practice makes perfect. And you have to learn
how to utilize all the techniques required until they have become second nature to
you.
Sounds too incredible to digest? Okay. Let's look at it from other examples. I am
sure almost everybody who has visited this homepage knows how to drive a car, ride
a bicycle, motorcycle or use roller blades, right? Think back to the time when you
were still struggling to learn the required skills needed to master the aforementioned
movements.
Remember the time when you were worried about whether you could park the car safely
without having one or two of its wheels landing in the drain or trying to balance
the bicycle or motorcycle you were riding, without crashing all over the tarmac?
Or the "awesome" somersaults attained while trying to learn how to skate
with that brand new pair of roller blades?
Now, you can laugh it off, thinking how silly it was trying really hard to master
those skills back in those days when you can now park your car perfectly, even with
one hand on the steering wheel, do GP-style cornering on your bike without falling
off or performing all stunts without any effort on that pair of roller blades.
It is the same in learning how to master the required techniques in photography.
You need to know how and when to utilize the required fundamentals of photography
for the types of pictures you want to shoot. Once you have mastered the skills, you
will find that you can use virtually any 35mm camera and lenses to create the images
you want, finally providing the answers to those questions which you have kept asking
yourself .
To know whether you are already a top-notch photography enthusiast is by conducting
these tests: Do you ask yourself three basic questions before you embark on a shooting
session or assignment? They are:
1. What is the theme?
2. How to focus attention to the subject?
3. How to simplify the picture?
