So far, the photos shown are of
the horizontal format. Well, here are some vertical versions, both outdoors and indoors.
The first one (below, left) is again of the same beauty pageant photo session but
with three other finalists. From the photo, you can see they were facing the sun
as one of them was shielding her face from the harsh noon sunlight, not exactly a
great situation for photography but most of the local photographers who were present
on that day preferred to shoot it that way. The Canon EOS-3's ECF, coupled with the
21-zone Evaluative metering, ensured the shot was properly recorded with the correct
exposure and aperture used was at f/5.6.

The courting couple above, set
at the 200mm focal length of the EF 70-200mm f/2.8L USM, was shot at f/2.8, with
a blurred background. There was nothing I could do with the distracting leaves and
branches on the top left of the photo as the scene was a split second situation.
Trying to look for a better angle that would have excluded the annoying branches
from the shot might have made the couple aware of my presence despite the telephoto
focal length. The blurred building in the background was Kuala Lumpur's new National
Cultural Theatre.
The Speedlite 550EX is designed as the companion flash for the EOS-3 as well as the
new EOS-1v pro model to provide E-TTL illumination. However, I have always been keen
to find out how well the EOS-3 operates in Canon's conventional TTL mode with the
Speedlite 540EZ. Of course, the 550EX can be set to operate in TTL mode via one of
the six built-in Custom Functions but I did not have it with me at that time (Oct
99), except for the EOS-1N's own Speedlite. The beauty finalist was shot at f/2.8
while the Omega watch promoters were captured at f/1.8, using the 540EZ. Shutter
speeds selected were 1/200 sec for the beauty finalist and 1/50 sec. for the Omega
watch promoters.
