Here is another high contrast
candid shot, of the two white cars caught in traffic congestion. Okay, the photo
doesn't really show the said congestion but a closer look at the photo reveals otherwise,
especially at the other driver being distracted. The meter reading was taken off
from this driver. The photo of both the Malaysian national flag (center) as well
as the capital's, was photographed with the Partial meter aimed at the main flag
itself. There was no need to get a reading from either one of the two smaller capital
flags in the background.
The next photo of the woman inspecting
her antique collection of Chinaware was shot under available light, in this case,
a mixture of both sunlight (through a sunroof)and fluorescent lighting and the Partial
meter was aimed at her face. As for the scene outside Kuala Lumpur's Central Market,
I had to wait for quite some time for the sun to temporarily disappear behind the
clouds in order to get the photo shown here. The difference in contrasts between
the highlight and shadow areas was too great for the film's exposure latitude when
the harsh afternoon sunlight was present. The moment the sun was hidden by the clouds,
a reading was obtained from one of the mobile carts in the background and the scene
was recorded on film.
In this photo below, we have the bluish cast again, only this time around, it has
nothing to do with underexposure but caused by the shadows of the buildings on a
heavily overcast day when the scene was photographed. The Partial meter reading was
taken quite close to the central area where the reflective part of the building façade
was located. The next shot was a bit trickier, as I had to take separate readings
from both the highlight and shadow areas. The highlight area registered a reading
of 1/125 sec at f/8 while the shadow was at 1/125 sec at f/3.5. Using the Quick Control
Dial to set exposure compensation (was in Tv mode) so the camera would adjust the
aperture value to f/5.6 at 1/125 sec, the scene was recorded with the new setting.
The garden outside of Kuala Lumpur's
Shangri-La Hotel was photographed with the Partial meter reading obtained from the
combined highlight areas of the background building and the trees in the center.
The trees looming in the foreground were already in silhouette and there was no point
in trying to brighten up a dark area. As for the final Partial metering photo in
this page, it was a close-up shot of a laminated bus-window and some of the seats
inside. The Partial meter reading was taken from one of the blue seats.
