The three icons of Kuala Lumpur (below, top left) was shot with the EF 70-200mm f/2.8L USM zoom lens using the rooftop of the National Mosque (a fourth icon) as a framing method. The Partial meter was aimed at the blue rooftop, recomposed and shot. Next, the mannequin was metered on its face, recomposed and shot via the available tungsten lighting, hence the warmer cast.

Candid shot at 200mm (P mode)

The heavily backlit photo of the group of "sticky" mannequins was shot with the Partial meter aimed at the one with the golden "hair." The candid shot was captured with the camera set on Program AE mode with the Partial meter aimed at the lady facing the camera. The EOS-1v selected a shutter speed of 1/15 sec. for this shot. This was the most successful out of five shots, the rest was ruined by camera shake.

Shooting in bad weather is not a problem with the EOS-1v set in any of its metering mode. It can be a bit trickier when the 21-zone Evaluative metering is used but Partial or Spot meter will be your best bet if you want to narrow down the field to a smaller scale in light values, as can be seen from these two photos below. They were both shot with the EOS-1v's Partial metering mode. The first was recorded with the camera set in AI Servo AF while the second was captured in the One Shot AF mode.

Meter was aimed at the news vendor

The Caucasian man who had just emerged from the bus was metered spot on with the camera's Partial meter, and I got the shot even though he has since walked out of the center area where the metering circle was located. The camera was set to AI Servo AF mode and it was able to track the man's movement even when he had left the center AF point. The exposure was memorized and locked with the AE Lock button, which has been relegated to the shutter button via C. Fn 4-1.

As for the photo of the news vendor, it was simply a candid shot that was metered, composed and photographed in quick time with the EOS-1v. The meter took into consideration the brightness of the vendor's shirt and set the exposure value accordingly. The camera was set in Tv mode at 1/30 sec. and an aperture of f/3.2 was selected. The light level just got dimmer when the shot was made due to the rain clouds looming overhead.
