As mentioned in the previous page,
both abstracts and still-life are among those that can be photographed with the Av
mode. The EOS 5, with its 16-zone Evaluative metering, makes things pretty much easy
with any of the EF lenses fitted to it. The abstract photo of the metallic blue car
(below, left) was photographed with the EF 70-210mm f/3.5-4.5 USM zoom lens set at
between 135mm and 210mm, exposure was at 1/180 sec. at f/8.

Next, is...actually, I don't know
what message this photo (above, right) was trying to convey but the warm sunset glow
that enveloped the building in the background (original was white) caught my attention,
so I thought capturing the scene with the EOS 5 set at f/5.6 with a shutter speed
of 1/15 sec. would be a blast initially. Maybe it did and maybe it didn't.
Part of this LRT track (below, left) with the distant buildings looming in the background
plus the partially cropped-off crane was photographed with the EF 70-210mm f/3.5-4.5
USM zoom lens, at its 210mm focal length in f/8, Av mode. Malaysia was celebrating
the countdown towards its 43rd Independence Day with this photo (below right), showing
the national flags decorated nicely in a row inside Kuala Lumpur's Central Market,
shot at f/3.5, Av mode. The other two photos were shot at f/5.6 and f/3.5.
Also mentioned earlier, slow shutter
speeds can be a problem when using any 35mm SLR camera in Av mode, and this photo
below show just how serious (or nice motion effect) camera shake can be when the
shutter speed selected was not adequate to freeze the movement nor the vibrations
generated by my not-so-steady hands during a 1/4 sec. exposure in Av mode at 210mm.

Ooops! Too slow at 1/4 sec! |

Incredible exposure metering |

The final photo of a scene showing some passengers alighting from an LRT was captured
superbly with the EOS 5's Evaluative metering despite the strong difference between
the highlight and shadow details in the late evening sunlight.
