While the primary function of
the EOS-1N RS is to be used mainly for shooting action subjects, the camera can also
be utilized for other aspects of general photography. If the RS is the only camera
that you may have (not all users can afford two, three or more high-end camera bodies
like professionals and advanced amateurs do), rest assured it can also be used to
shoot other subject matters as well, and is not confined to only sports and action
photography.
Abstract, still-life and candid shots are among those subjects that the EOS-1N RS
can capture very well and faster too, when compared to other 35mm SLR cameras. If
you use the camera in RS and One Shot AF modes (AI Servo AF not possible during RS),
you will be amazed at the rapid ease and speed that this model records images on
film. If you have been frustrated in not getting the desired results on film due
to the slowness of your old camera, the RS can capture it in a split second and you
will know immediately whether you have got the shot.
Basically, I am speaking from
experience in using the EOS-1N RS. The ultra-fast 0.006 second shutter release when
the camera is set in its RS mode allows me to record the spontaneous moment each
time I see it unfolding. Or the fact, I got the candid shots I wanted and walked
away without the subject realizing what had transpired. In the candid photos below,
only the second shot was actually photographed without the two race queens ever knowing
what was happening. The rest of the photos were shot at the starting grid, where
no one really cared how many candid pictures you could shoot within the permitted
ten-minute session allowed before the race got underway.
Okay, I admit that the third photo
from above is indeed a rare sight for most people, especially those who have never
or don't attend motorsport events. Even I was taken aback when this sight was unfolding
right before my eyes - there are not many racing events where the race drivers have
had to carry the umbrellas shielding them from the blazing sunlight on a hot afternoon
day. This is usually handled by the respective teams' own umbrella girls (also known
as race queens) at the starting grids. But only the teams that are well-funded or
heavily sponsored can afford to do so and the privateers usually can't.
