For general, travel, candid and snapshot
photography, the versatility of using zoom lenses is indispensable. Okay, prime lenses
can do that too, as I have shown in issue No: 36 of this column and other past issues,
but zoom lenses allow more flexibility, whereas with the single focal length optics,
you have to either get closer or further away from your subject in order to get the
best composition you have in mind.

Candid and snapshot
These starting grid photos were shot at the FIM Asia Road Racing Championship as
well as from one of the pits. With zoom lenses, you have a choice of shooting them
using the wide-angle or at the telephoto settings. I opted for the latter.

Catwalk fashion shoot
Catwalk fashion shows can be rather exciting to record on film as the rapid movements
of the models will give your EOS camera's AF system a good way to test its accuracy.
Since the models concerned can walk towards the audience or the photographers from
one end of the catwalk to the other, using a zoom lens, preferably those having focal
lengths of between 70 and 300mm, is the best choice as you can change the zooming
range from medium to higher telephoto setting with ease as the models strut their
way to you or away from you.
