These four photos below were photographed
during a full-dress rehearsal of a Malaysian cultural parade. In the first photo,
you can see some photographers (actually, photography students) in the foreground
and will be wondering as to why I didn't just walk up close to the scene for a bigger
viewpoint like they did. There are four reasons of which one is I wanted to capture
the particular atmosphere with the 50mm lens without using flash. And another was
I had two other EF lenses with me, the EF 135mm f/2.0L USM and EF 70-200mm f/2.8L
USM. Third, the students were using zoom lenses with variable maximum apertures and
were shooting via tripods. Fourth, getting closer meant I couldn't get more of the
overall scene into the picture since I didn't bring any wide-angle lenses on that
night.

For the female indigenous Kadazan tribe dancers from Sabah, I only needed to stay
put and the EF 50mm f/1.4 USM lens got the scene on film. The same goes for the next
two photos although this time around, TTL flash illumination in Tv mode took care
of the lighting situations for me - at this point, I had shot a number of rolls via
available light and happened to give fill-in flash a try for a change.
Next, a dimly-lit Petronas Twin Towers at night was easy to be recorded on film with
the 50mm lens - the exposure was at 1/15 sec. at f/1.4, handheld. From available
and low light shootings, the 50mm standard lens can also be used for daytime shooting
conditions. The apartment building was shot out from a moving car's windows as the
vehicle sped past.

Next, the huge interior of Hong Kong SAR's Chek Lap Kok airport was easily captured
on film, with the small outlines of people on the extreme left giving anyone an idea
of its sheer size. The last image was photographed through the glass panel from inside
the departure lounge terminal as I was waiting for my flight (that's the plane) to
commence passenger boarding.
