This series of photos was part of
the first few field-tests that I did with the sample unit of the EOS-1V provided
by Canon Malaysia. The compositions were secondary here as I was more interested
in finding out how well the EOS-1V's 21-zone Evaluative metering would perform as
well as its 45-point AF system in One Shot AF mode
This test of the EOS-1V was one proof
that to a certain extent, the right equipment does help in getting the pictures done
right. However, even though the compositions were far from satisfactory, the camera's
21-zone Evaluative metering was not 100% foolproof and naturally, I reacted well
in getting the camera to provide images that were free from incorrect exposures.
Using the EOS-1N and EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS USM zoom lens
In this assignment exclusively to test out the EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS USM zoom
lens for Nuts & Bolts issue No: 24, the other lens that I had with me was again
the EF 28-70mm f/2.8L USM, which was hardly used anyway. There was no need to bring
along my EF 70-200mm f/2.8L USM or the EF 300mm f/2.8L USM (non-IS type). The photo
of the umbrella girls was photographed at the 400mm focal length, shot minutes before
the cars were scheduled to come out from their pits and make their way to the starting
grid.
The versatility of this zoom lens
enabled me to shoot anything from the action itself to candid shots in both the pit
lanes and paddock areas as well as close-up shots of the "winners" (results
declared null & void later) at both the podium presentation and post-race press
conference.
For the next several issues, I will focus on how and what I did in getting the images
I wanted, using only the limited range of equipment that I had with me while on the
field.
