The rest of the images shown in this page were photographed at Malaysia's Crab Island, better known as Pulau Ketam in the local language. The island is visited by tourists daily and happens to be a fishing village as well, with the inhabitants earning their living as fishermen or operators of seafood restaurants, and other trades catering to visitors.

The EOS 30 and EF 200mm f/2.8L II USM telephoto combination proved to be excellent in creating some great images over there, as evident in these four examples shown below. The shot of the barber attending to his customer really looked like as though Partial metering was used for this complex lighting situation. In reality, the camera's 35-zone Evaluative metering was utilized instead. The bright lamp did not affect the overall meter reading as my eye was focused on the customer and the camera set the final exposure based on which AF point that had been activated by my eye via ECF.

Partial metering was indeed used for the next photo showing the man cycling along a pathway deep in shadow. The final exposure was formulated based on the difference between the single highlight (on wall) and the largely shadow areas. The meter reading was obtained moments before the man was getting ready to cycle towards the camera's direction.

The photo of the approaching fisherman in his boat was shot from atop a bridge which was located from above the river that divided the island's main village into two sections. The camera's 35-zone Evaluative metering was used exclusively with no exposure compensation being applied. Next, the photo of the fishing boats anchoring along the jetty area alongside the river was also shot from the same viewpoint. Only this time around, the boats were slightly further away from the bridge.

I also had the EF 28-70mm f/2.8L USM zoom lens and Extender EF 2x with me for this trip but 85% of the photos were shot with the 200mm telephoto lens alone. The EOS 30, which was not fitted with the optional Battery Pack BP-300, was a very compact and lightweight package to carry around inside a pouch or around my neck via its strap. The EF lenses and Extender EF 2x were carried in other compact cases that were strapped to the belt of the said pouch, making my movement around the island a lightweight affair with no hassles from any camera bag.
