Referring back to question number two on focusing attention to the main subject, and using the framing techniques, your subject donít have to be necessarily big and filling the frame in order to focus attention on it.

In this example, the lone man walking on the deserted pedestrian mall, although the size is quite small compared to all the main subjects shown in previous photos as featured in The Art of Photography columns, your attention is focused on him rather than the surrounding area.

The street lights, fences and the background walls are framing elements that give support to that person. The simplification used here is there were no other people around but he and all the attention is focused solely on him alone.

Another framing method is shown here of the photo of the Proton race that was held recently at the Sepang racetrack. Again, the simplification method was expanded to include the crowd in both the foreground and background to show the atmosphere at the track. Both the start/finish banner and the crowd served as the framing elements in this photograph.
