Canon Off Camera Shoe Cord 2.
Welcome to the third issue of Films & Accessories. In this issue, the spotlight
is on the Canon Off Camera Shoe Cord 2. This affordable special accessory is useful
for any Canon EOS user who would like to experiment with off-camera automatic TTL
flash control using any of the existing range of EZ or EX series of Canon Speedlites.
A question for photo enthusiasts who are currently surfing this issue:
How many times have you came across articles from any of the photographic books or
magazines available in the market that have always advised against using direct flash
for your subjects since it is not the best remedy for achieving flattering portraits
or still-life photography?
If the answer is PLENTY, read on.
Well, there's no doubt that there are a lot of accessories available in the market
to help you achieve a more uniformed and balanced light controls for all of your
indoor photography shooting requirements.
Among them are the studio lighting equipment, slave units that can be connected to
your camera or flash units to enable you to fire your flashguns off the camera, using
reflectors or white umbrellas to bounce off the flash's output so as to provide softer
lights onto your subjects.
Personally speaking, I prefer the easiest method -- just set my Canon Speedlite 540EZ's
flash head toward its 90° horizontal or vertical bounce angle positions and shoot.
It's that simple. No need for any complicated set-ups or multiple flash connections
using lots of cables or other inconvenient techniques.
This easy-to-use Canon-style bounce flash photography works really fine for about
90 per cent of the time. The only time where the 540EZ's bounce flash were in situations
where the ceiling of where the events were either not neutral in colour or simply
too high for the bounce flash technique to work.
What to do in circumstances like these where you want to avoid using direct flash
so as not to have those dark shadows in your pictures, especially the portraits (the
Press term is called mugshots) of any people you want to snap of?
