Back to portraits, using the same model
as in the EOS-3 test from Nuts & Bolts No.8, the first portrait is similar to
the one used in that EOS-3 test of the Speedlite 550EX but this time the light from
the main flash has been reduced to 1:2 ratio, hence the reduced illumination.
On the second portrait, the flash ratio from the main 550EX has been increased to
3:1 resulting in a more powerful (and almost washout) rendition of the modelís skin
tone.
In these two final portraits, flash exposure bracketing were used in conjunction
with the E-TTL Wireless Autoflash System of the EOS-3. The photo on the left was
shot with the fill-in flash set at 1:2 ratio and no exposure bracketing on the main
flash.
The second photo on the right, the placements
of the two 550EX Speedlites were the same as the first photo but the exposure was
increased 2/3-stops for the main 550EX. The result is a stronger exposure on the
highlight. Notice the lighter rendition of the modelís skin tone compared to the
first photo.
Overall, the Canon EOS-3 when combined with a single unit of Speedlite 550EX
is already capable of beautiful flash pictures each time. With the added benefits
of the Wireless Flash System, the performances of EOS-3 and Speedlite 550EX combination
will be further enhanced.
