When the lens is not being used for its unique IS feature, it is also an excellent lens for normal photography as can be seen in the following pictures during a Press Conference by Hong Kong stars Aaron Kwok and Cheng Ekin in Kuala Lumpur recently.

The photo on the top left was shot using the lens' wide-angle 28mm position while the photo on the top right was shot at the 135mm setting. For both shots, the IS system was switched off since flash was used. Exposure was at 1/60 sec. at f/5.6 on Programmed A-TTL Flash using Speedlite 540EX on Fujichrome Astia 100 colour reversal film.

The lens itself is especially useful for news and travel photography (photo on the right). Focusing is quick and almost silent. Full-time manual focusing is standard as in all Canon EF USM lenses. If you are limiting yourself to carrying only one lens for any shooting requirements, this lens will handle the job beautifully with crisp details and excellent contrast.
