The focal lengths of 22-55mm are realised when the lens is used for 35mm EOS cameras. When the EF 22-55mm f/4-5.6 USM zoom lens is to be used with the EOS IX and EOS IX7 APS cameras, the focal length of the lens will correspond to 1.25 times that are indicated for 35mm cameras due to the smaller 24mm format used.

On these APS cameras, this lens would correspond to focal lengths of 28-69mm instead. For its high-speed autofocusing, a Micro USM is used for almost silent AF operation. The lens also has a high quality appearance with a metallic ring used for its smooth zooming operation.

As with any EF zoom lens having wide-angles, standard or short telephoto focal lengths, the EF 22-55mm f/4-5.6 USM is great for use in travel photography as well. Choose any subject during your travel, whether it is an architecture structure and use the wide setting of the zoom lens to include every part of the structure in the frame.

Or go closer still and shoot abstracts or close-up pictures from anything that catch your attention from the sights and scenes of things that you might encounter while travelling.

One tendency for anyone who may have bought this zoom lens is to use it for most of the time at the wider focal length settings. This is normal since you will be able to show more detail and coverage of the subject matter compared to when the images are shot using the 55mm setting.

To give you an idea of the different angle-of-views that changed with each of the marked focal lengths on the zoom lens, here are four examples that show the changes.

Even though this zoom lens is intended to be used with both 35mm entry-level or APS-type of EOS cameras, users of intermediate or high-end EOS cameras having built-in flash like the EOS 50/50E or the EOS 5.

The compactness of the lens makes it an ideal companion for any EOS camera having built-in flash since you don't have to be burdened with lots of photo equipment when all you need is a camera and a lens having reasonable wide-to-standard focal lengths.

This is especially true if you are attending social events where you do not want your camera to be a distraction but just right to allow you to shoot some pictures that you and your friends would to have of the events attended as memories.
