Like the EF 28-80mm f/3.5-5.6 V USM, the EF 80-200mm f/4.5-5.6 II zoom lens' lightweight makes it ideal for handheld shooting in available or low-light photography. Even though its maximum aperture of f/4.5 and f/5.6 at the 80mm and 200mm settings respectively, its lighter weight will enable the user to shoot at shutter speeds as low as 1/8 sec. and still produce acceptable results, as can be seen in the photo below, on the left.

Low light shooting at 1/8 sec. at the 135mm setting

Portrait with fill-in flash at the 135mm setting

The zoom lens held up very well even in backlit situations with fill-in flash from the Speedlite 540EZ on my Canon EOS-1N, as can be seen from the half-length portrait of HK artiste Eason Chan, above, on the right.
