Manual Exposure mode

In the Manual mode, you gain full control, using the Main Dial to set shutter speed and the Quick Control Dial for aperture settings. Or if you prefer, these functions can be reversed with Custom Function CF 5. The viewfinder display shows both your settings, as well as the exposure value metered by the camera.

Tricky but a 1/3-stop underexposure got it right

And there you have it, the features of the Canon EOS-1N Pro camera. Basically, what I have said so far on its features are probably not much different from what you may have read from the camera's own catalog or other articles in printed form or elsewhere on the Internet.

If you want to know about what I think of this camera as well as my personal experiences in using it for the past five years, I can sum it up in ONE word: Excellent.

Do I own the EOS-3? The answer is NO. And never will. Why? The only thing that attracts me to the EOS-3 is its Wireless Autoflash feature with the Speedlite 550EX. Other than this, for the moment, I prefer to use Canon's TTL Flash AE mode rather than the E-TTL version for my flash work.

I have never encountered any malfunction with my five-year old EOS-1N despite it being knocked around and dropped a couple of times. What more can I say? However, my personal preference aside, there's no reason why any of you shouldn't get the EOS-3 over the EOS-1N.

If you think the five advantages of the EOS-1N over the EOS-3 are not important, by all means go for the latter. Also, if you think the EOS-3 makes a good backup for your existing EOS-1 or EOS-1N body, then go for it, too.

But for those who, like me, find the Canon EOS-1N to be flawless and a joy to use, with plenty of superb images to talk about, here's looking forward to celebrating the sixth anniversary of this camera come September 2000.
