It's without a doubt that the EF 75-300mm f/4-5.6 III zoom lens is also excellent for taking candid shots. Candid photography can be shot from any focal length, including wide-angles but for those really discreet-type of photos, you will need a telephoto lens. And this zoom lens is more than adequate to accomplish most types of candid photography. If the lighting level does not permit handheld shooting, you can always use a faster film with higher ISO rating to compensate for the slower variable maximum apertures of /4 and f/5.6. The choice of horizontal or vertical format when shooting candid, is, of course, up to you, based on personal preferences.
