Shooting with the PIC modes

There are five Programmed Image Control (PIC) modes available on the EOS 33. Each of them is specifically designed for the required tasks - Portrait, Landscape, Close-up, Sports and Slow-sync flash.

50mm's angle-of-view

24mm's angle-of-view

50mm, closest focusing distance

24mm, closest focusing distance

In comparison to a standard 50mm lens, the 24mm focal length offers a dramatic diagonal angle-of-view of 84-degree as opposed to the 46-degree of the former. The first two photos from above shows the difference in the angle-of-view between the EF 50mm f/1.4 USM and the EF 24m f/1.4L USM. When it comes to close-up shots (without extension tubes), both lenses exhibit more or less the same image sizes (examples, above, lower two photos), with the 50mm giving less perspective distortion than the 24mm. Depth-of-field is shallow for both lenses but the main subject is crisp (EF zoom lens) while the Spider-Man figurine has a softer rendition in both photos.

Its dry weight is 550 grams. This fast aperture 24mm L-series wide-angle lens is designed mainly for available and low light shootings - yes, you can also use it for practically any type of lighting conditions, bright sunshine, open shade or night scenes, outdoors and indoors lit under tungsten or dim lights but the lens' potential is at its greatest when it is used for photographing less than ideal lighting environments.

These first three available light images were photographed in the same venue, which happened to be Kuala Lumpur's Suria KLCC but at different levels/areas. The first was shot at Level Three, outside the main entrance to the Cineplex lobby while the second was from Level One, shooting upward. The third photo was shot at the Lower Ground Level, which happened to be the Burger King's main entrance.

A makeshift food stall

The last image (above, lower right) was photographed with the EF 24mm f/1.4L USM lens at a makeshift food stall located inside a dimly lit alley. The stall was basically lit from the dwindling evening sunlight that came through a gap of the awnings erected around the area.
