As mentioned in the previous page,
close focusing is also possible with this zoom lens. However, Canon opted not to
have the lens being able to focus at the same closest focusing distance at all focal
lengths, limiting it to 0.6m/2 ft between the 35mm and 135mm focal lengths and at
between 0.7m and 2.2m for those at 160mm till 350mm. At the 135mm focal length and
0.6m focusing distance, a wristwatch can be photographed very close with this lens.
Add either the EF 12 or EF25 extension tube to the lens, and one can get even closer
still to the wristwatch, as evident from these two shots shown here.

To get an idea of how much one can capture with the EF 35-350mm f/3.5-5.6L USM zoom
lens, these two pair of photos show exactly that. In the first pair, the first photo
shows the flower bed shot at the 35mm position. Zooming in to the 350mm position
has isolated some of flowers, making them stand out from the others.

Also, in the second pair, the same method was employed. At the 35mm position, the
entire Plaza Pantai complex as well as part of the surrounding areas can be included
in the picture. Zooming in the lens to its 350mm position, only a limited view of
Plaza Pantai can be seen.
Does the EF 35-350mm f/3.5-5.6L USM zoom lens make for a good investment? This depends
on how you look at it and also how often you think you need the 10x power of this
lens.
This lens was unusual when it first became available. Since then, there have been
other great EF lenses in the line-up, like the EF 70-200mm f/4L and 2.8L USM versions
as well as the afore-mentioned EF 100-400 f/4.5-5.6L IS USM. There is no doubt that
the EF 35-350mm is still the only EF lens offering a 10x zoom ratio in the entire
EF line-up. But if you think you don't need the extra power that if offers, you can
do without it by choosing any one of the other EF-L series zoom lenses available
as your final purchase.
