One
of the advantages of using zoom lenses is their ability that enables photographers
to compose and crop the desired images directly and quickly within the viewfinder
prior to releasing the shutter button by zooming back and forth for the preferred
settings.
For example, the 24mm end may be too wide for a particular picture and the 85mm side
might be too tight to fit in all the necessary surroundings. After zooming back and
forth, you may find that the ideal focal length will be at between the 35mm and 70mm
settings and so you set your zooming ring at that setting and click.
All
these can be done in mere seconds and much faster than switching lenses or moving
your position back and forth if you are using fixed focal length lenses rather than
zooms. This is especially important if the subject is moving since changing lenses
might mean that the subject may have already disappeared from your view by the time
you have complete the changing of lenses.
Telephoto focal lengths are also known to be effective for shooting abstract pictures.
With zoom lenses having telephoto at the top end, abstract photography is made even
easier since it enables the photographer to zoom up instantly to the appropriate
angle to record the abstract look on film.
