Analog Camera
APS Format - SLR : EOS IX

Feature

Easy-error free film loading

The Advanced Photo System film cartridges are simply dropped into the camera for easy loading. There is no film leader to thread, and no risk of lost or wasted exposures.

Advanced Photo System features
You can switch at any time between C, H and P formats. The current format is outlined in the viewfinder by a liquid crystal mask. Photographs will be printed in the selected format. Full-featured IX data recording during the exposure leads to better print quality.

The AIM system
The Canon metering and focusing systems are remarkable on their own. But bring them together and the sum is greater than the parts. Canon calls it 'AIM' -- Advanced Integrated Multipoint control. The principle is simple. The metering follows the focusing so that the main subject is correctly exposed at all times. If the subject is to the left of the frame, then that is where the meter reading is taken. Flash metering is linked to the system, too, giving optimum exposure indoors and out.

Select your focusing mode
Focusing modes are selected by pressing the AF mode button on the camera back. Four modes are available. One Shot Af focuses, then locks the focus so it does not change. Predictive AF with AI Servo follows a moving subject, changing the focus to keep the image sharp. AI Focus automatically switches between the other two modes, to suit the subject. Manual focus is also available.

Three focusing points
Look through the viewfinder of the EOS IX and you will see three small frames across the centre of the screen. These are focusing points. The camera focuses on the subject covered by the active focusing point. This means that the subject does not have to be in the centre of the frame to give a sharp image and you can concentrate on the composition.

Evaluative metering
Evaluative metering adds professional expertise to your camera. Meter readings are taken from six different areas of the scene. A built-in computer then compares these readings with a library of typical scenes. In this way, the camera is able to detect light or dark backgrounds, or other difficult subjects, and adjust the exposure accordingly.

Auto Exposure Bracketing (AEB)
The EOS IX metering system is extremely accurate in most situations. However, in difficult lighting conditions, or where you only have one chance to get it right. Auto Exposure Bracketing (AEB) is the answer. It takes three shots in quick succession, each with a slightly different exposure. You can choose the best picture after the film is processed. The bracketed exposures can be set to vary from the first exposure by up to 2 stops.

Built-in flash
The EOS IX has a built-in retractable flash. In the Full Auto, Portrait, Close-up and Night Scene modes, the flash unit pops up and fires automatically when the light is low. It can also be raised manually and fired in daylight. The flash is powerful enough for small portrait groups indoors, and for fill-in flash effects outdoors. Exposure is automatic, using through-the-lens flash metering.

Full Auto mode
The green square Full Auto mode puts the camera in control. It sets not only the shutter speed and aperture, but also the focusing and film advance modes, auto flash, and focusing point selection.

Viewfinder
The viewfinder provides a complete readout of format, focusing and metering data. It shows the focusing points, shutter speed and aperture selected, exposure compensation, in-focus indicator, AE Lock indicator, flash ready indicator, and much more.

LCD panel
The LCD panel on the back of the camera repeats most of the information from the viewfinder and also shows other useful data, including the battery level, focus mode, film status, frame counter, data display, film speed, frame advance mode, red-eye reduction, and film type indicator.
