Behold,
The New Canon EOS-3 AF 35mm SLR Camera.
At first glance, the EOS-3 (left) resembles the Professional-level Canon EOS-1N AF
35mm SLR Camera.
Look closely and you will see that the resemblance to the EOS-1N camera is limited
only to certain parts like the removable handgrip and the positions of the pushbutton
controls. The areas where the EOS-3 does not resemble the EOS-1N is its head and
the slightly sleeker top left body plate.
Any further resemblance of the EOS-3 to the EOS-1N is largely due to the new (optional)
Power Drive Booster PB-E2 (see pictures below and on the next page) that also powers
the camera's maximum firing rate of 7 frames-per-second (fps) when used with the
rechargeable Ni-MH Pack NP-E2. The new PB-E2 Booster can also use 8 AA-size alkaline
batteries as well as the AA-size lithium batteries.
When used without the PB-E2 unit, the camera's built-in firing rate is a fast 4.3
fps, which is 1.3 frames more than the EOS-1N's built-in rate without a power booster.
What type of new features does the new EOS-3 camera has compared to the EOS-1N and
EOS 5 cameras?
The EOS 3 has a 45-point Area AF sensors. All the AF points are capable of utilising
the Eye-Controlled Focus feature. It also has a new companion Canon Speedlite, the
550EX, that is capable of both High Speed Focal-Plane (FP) Flash and Wireless Autoflash
System as well as the conventional automatic E-TTL flash output first used in the
EOS 50/50E cameras.
