With the other, previously introduced EOS cameras that feature E-TTL Autoflash
such as the EOS 50/50E, 500N, IX, IX 7 or the EOS D2000 digital SLR, the A:B flash
output ratio control is not available thought the standard autoflash can be used.
You can trigger off as many Speedlites 550EX as you desire through the master. Every
unit will fire at the equal output level and the total amount results in optimum
flash exposure. Manual wireless flash can also be used.
But how is this possible when the EOS D2000 was based on the EOS-1N camera
body?
Canon has revised
the program for the EOS D2000 digital camera to enable it to exploit the benefits
of the E-TTL flash system which is far superior than the previous TTL and A-TTL flash
output offered from the normal EOS-1N with the 430EZ/540EZ Speedlites.
The new Speedlite 550EX looks very similar to the Speedlite 540EZ that was introduced
with the EOS-1N camera in physical appearance and size. The 550EX differs slightly
from the 540EZ by having its Wireless transmitter/receiver located at the front --
the same area where the TTL pre-flash emitter and sensor of the latter is located.
The EOS-3 is intended especially for the advanced amateur photographers who can't
afford to buy the EOS-1N or EOS-1N RS cameras and find the EOS 5 camera to
be less advanced to their liking. However, this will not stop professional photographers
from buying the EOS-3 as a backup unit to complement their EOS-1N cameras. And there
are professionals out there currently, who prefer the EOS 5 camera to the EOS-1N
series.
The new EOS-3 is a camera that represents the best of both worlds for both the amateurs
and professional photographers. It is placed as the intermediate EOS model between
the popular EOS 5 and the pro level EOS-1N cameras and has the most advanced technology
available for any EOS models to date. The new EOS-3 AF 35mm SLR camera can be described
as the "T90" version in the EOS series. Need to say more?
A field-test using an actual production version of the camera to gauge its performances
and reliability will be featured in an upcoming issue of the Nuts & Bolts No.5
column in the photography section of this website in November/December '98.
Commercial availability of the EOS-3 in Malaysia is expected around late '98 or early
'99. For any Malaysian photographer interested in owning one, you can place your
order now from any of the authorised Canon photo dealers in the country to reserve
one.
