You can go further with 35-zone evaluative metering

With the EOS 300's unprecedented new metering system, you can make under or overexposed shots a thing of the past. Now even in the harshest of lighting conditions, the EOS 300 will give you absolute control. Each of the 35 zones is linked to one of the 7 focus points, which makes evaluative metering more precise than ever before. So now, when you focus on something, the metering is weighted to the zones directly surrounding the selected focus point. Secondary and tertiary weighting dependent on their distance from the central focus point, is given to the remaining zones. Very much, in fact, the way, your own eye works: seeing everything within your field of vision, but concentrating on what you're actually looking at.

Of course, as a photographer, there will be times when you want to dictate the exposure of your shots. And as a direct descendent of Canon's professional cameras, you can be sure that the EOS 300 won't let you down. All exposure information is clearly displayed in the viewfinder, so you can see at a glance exactly what your exposure will be. There are also a full range of metering systems geared towards your different needs. Like Partial Metering, for pin-point accuracy, where readings are taken from a small (9.5%) area in the centre of the viewfinder, or Centre-weighted Average Metering (ideal for landscapes) which, as the name suggests, weights the metering in the centre of the frame and then averages it out for the rest of the picture.
