Sophisticated Autofocus System The EOS 88 possesses the unrivaled autofocus capability of Canon's popular EOS cameras - high speed, high precision and wide focusing area. Wide Focusing Area With the wide area 3-point autofocus system, you will never have to lock focus and recompose your shot again. As long as your subject is within one of the focusing points, it will remain sharp, even if it is off-center or continuously moving! Automative AF Mode Selection The EOS 88 automatically selects one of the two autofocusing modes to suit the picture-taking mode you have chosen. One-Shot AF This mode is used when there is little movement in the subject. When focus is achieved, autofocus operation stops and focus is locked. With this feature, you can capture subjects that are extremely off center and not covered by any of the three focusing points. The exposure is decided the moment the subject is in focus. With focus prediction, the AI-Servo AF is used for action photography. If camera senses that subject is moving, it switches from one-shot AF to Predictive AF. It is able to track subject movement until focus is achieved. The exposure is decided only when you release the shutter. AF Assist Lamp An automatic, built-in tungsten lamp provided the extra lighting needed for the lens to focus in poor lighting conditions. Partial Metering Mode You can choose to meter only a particular area in your shot. Pressing the AE lock button will limit the metering area to the center circle, which is 9.5% of the picture area. So direct the center circle to the part you wish to meter, then press the button. The metering results remain locked as long as you keep pressing the AE button. You are now free to recompose the shot. Exposure Compensation With exposure compensation in 1/2 stop increments up to +/- 2 stops, it's so easy to achieve precise exposure or even experiment creatively.
