Canon has designed
the new DIGIC (Digital Imaging Integrated Circuit) processor specifically
for great image processing. Combining the 6 key elements of image rendering, AE/
AF/ AWB, signal processing, JPEG compression, memory card control and LCD monitor
display, this camera delivers better quality images by improving the signal processing
algorithms of image processors, improving the autofocus accuracy, improving the processing
speed. Also with the speed advantage of DIGIC, battery life is improved too.
The new DIGIC Image Processor also improve the ability for the camera to record 15
fps digital video up to 3 minutes per clip at resolution up to 640 x 480 pixels.

iSAPS
: intelligent Scene Analysis based on Photographic Space
Canon has created
a 'Photographic Space' that relates the peripheral brightness and the distance between
camera and subject according to the zoom position of the lens when taking a picture.
By utilizing the 'Photographic Space' data, this camera can analyze and calculate
a scene just before the image is made and in doing so, increase the speed and precision
of the camera's autofocus, auto exposure and auto white balance.

Wide
Area 9 point AiAF
The extra data
processing power has also enabled to increase the number of autofocusing zones to
9-point autofocus. This new 9-point AiAF system covers a much larger percentage of
the picture area and improves the camera's ability to find and autofocus off-center
subjects quickly. However, users may set for 1-point central-area AF for focusing
on a specific part of a subject with greater certainty.
